Since the business was first established over 50 years ago, The DL Company have built a strong reputation throughout the local area for providing quality products and flawless installations.
Based in Sheffield, we have seen the company go from strength to strength over the years, as our team has expanded and we have become a Komfort Registered Contractor. Take a look at the video and timeline below to find out more about the history of The DL Company.
DL Storage Handling Ltd started by Edmund Dobson and Peter Lowe serving the local area through the design, supply and installation of storage handling equipment.
Building an excellent reputation the firm grew, taking on its own installation teams to provide a reliable, accountable service from concept to completion.
Brian Cutts joined the company to increase its profile and sales, reaching to all parts of South Yorkshire and the North Midlands.
Steve Ledger, Ian Whittaker and Martin Gillott join DL as part of our installation teams, who remain with us to this day. Using our expertise of space utilisation allied products were introduced to customers, particularly demountable partitions for factory and office environments.
DL staged a very successful storage and handling exhibition, displayed inside the Ball Room of The Royal Victoria Hotel, Sheffield!
DL achieved BS 5750 status to cement the Quality reputation.
The firm moved from Glossop Road to its, then, “state of the art” offices at John Street.
DL became a Komfort Registered Contractor, offering partition systems supplied by what is now the UK’s leading manufacturer of Workspace products.
In our partnership with Komfort Workspace the variety of products offered grows to include office furniture.
Brian Cutts retired after 26 years service with the Company. Daniel Lowe, Edmund’s grandson, becomes the third generation of the family to serve DL.
DL move from John Street to its current Jessops Riverside office, a working showcase of our abilities.
Steve Ledger and Ian Whittaker complete 25 years service with the Company.
DL achieve Investor in People accreditation.
Quite a Year… 700mm of Sheffield water flows through our building on 25th June as Peter Lowe retires on June 29th.
He is succeeded by Daniel Lowe, with Alan Smith moving into the Sales role having already completed 4 years with the Company.

Tyler Rodgers Graduates as DL’s first apprentice.
Chris Mills joins DL and we enter the world of Shopfitting, taking on the Dunelm Account, delivering Grade 2 store refurbishments across the Country.
DL Create and install Garden Offices for the first time. Utilising our extensive knowledge of construction alongside skilled and employed joiners, we create outside spaces for many clients, old and new, in their Gardens, to the usual highest standards.
The whole DL family is still here and open for business, post Covid, bigger and better than before. Having recently updated our own offices to reflect the changes in the Office we’re delivering new and altered workspace, to meet the need of a rapidly changing world.
We Turned 50!!!
The whole DL Family celebrate becoming a Sheffield Institution with a trip to Scarborough. An amazing achievement by everyone involved with DL over half a century. We’re going to continue batting on to 100!
